I love Driving the Birds fans!
Yes, you are my favorite people, because Jabonkah’s story was meaningful to you, although it was difficult to read due to the sadness you felt and the tears that formed.
Jeanette (Jabonkah) and I are very grateful for your comments about her life and the horror you felt about FGM. We also appreciate the time you took to write book reviews: 40 on Amazon and two on Barnes&Noble. Your positive support of DTB is “payday” for the pain Jeanette endured in telling her story, so I could write it. Trust me, she suffered when she dug deep into her childhood memories.
If you have not seen Jeanette’s interview with Pastor Susan Boyer of the La Verne Church of the Brethren, La Verne, California, then please click this link: YouTube. (Thank you, Don Pollock, chair of the University of La Verne’s TV Department, for producing the show! Also a special thanks for George Keeler, chair of the Communications Department at ULV.)
Most of you want the next book in Jabonkah’s story. I’m working on it. When Jeanette returns to Liberia in the near future to see Zena, she will be taking notes, plus I have hired a Liberian gentleman (Thanks to Pastor Brown of Church Aid Inc. of Monrovia, Liberia.) to video record part of this mother and daughter reunion. If my health allowed, I would be going with Jeanette!
Best wishes, stay tuned…
